Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center in Rockford, IL, offers a variety of Memory Care services. Our team receives specialized training in “Dementia Care,” to ensure residents receive compassionate, knowledgeable support each day. Staff review training several times per year to understand the unique cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs associated with dementia. Fairhaven has a trained CDP, CADDCT on staff that provides hands-on learning. This training provides practical techniques for communication, safety, and person-centered care. Through ongoing education and hands-on learning, our caregivers are equipped to respond with patience, respect, and empathy. Here at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, our goal is to help each individual maintain dignity, comfort, and the highest possible quality of life in a safe and supportive environment.
Q. Can Fairhaven manage and support memory declines that occur with diagnoses such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia or normal memory declines with aging?
A. Yes, in most situations, Fairhaven continues to be an excellent option for life care considerations. Our staff receives ongoing education as outlined above.

Fairhaven is a continuing care community, and therefore we are able to provide guidance and support with minimal declines in memory in one of our three supportive care units (similar to assisted living). We are additionally able to offer extensive intervention when further oversight is needed to ensure safety and success in our health center. The following information are some examples and practical ways that offering the right care at the right time can benefit those we serve at Fairhaven:
Supportive Care
- Medication Administration: Fairhaven manages all ordering and distributing of medication directly to individuals at time scheduled.
- Cueing & Reminders: Providing support for scheduled and non-scheduled routines such as: meal times, invitations and direction to activity programs, and enjoying meaningful leisure in individual rooms.
- Wandering: Fairhaven is able to manage wandering tendencies that can be re-directed and that are not attempts to leave the building. If appropriate we are able to use electronic monitoring which notifies staff if an individual needs attention.
- Socialization: Sometimes individuals struggle with uncertainties such as not knowing who they will interact with and fearing they won’t know how to get back to their room. Our staff alleviates these situations by providing reassurance, encouragement, and support to address resident concerns. These positive interactions build trusting relationships which lead to more meaningful engagement and opportunities for life enrichment. Learn more about our community life at Fairhaven.
- Nutrition: Fairhaven prepares delicious and nutritious meals. This has a significant effect on overall wellness.

Health Center & Memory Care
Our Health Center includes the above memory care services but can go beyond intermittent care to offer more services for advanced physical or cognitive needs. The health center provides direct oversight with increased staffing to more closely monitor and offer quality care intervention.
- Step-by-Step Assistance: Our health center is staffed for higher resident-to-staff care. Some individuals require a slower pace or need longer periods of time to enable them to complete routines and tasks themselves. Additionally, residents may have extensive limitations that rely on staff to complete all care needs.
- Monitoring & Supervision: Providing advanced support to structure time and direction throughout the day for moments of increased confusion in regard to wandering, time management, and reassurance.
- Well-Being: Social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs are harder to meet when a loved one has increased physical and cognitive challenges. Fairhaven has an interdisciplinary team that creates an individualized plan to focus on quality care, quality services, and overall quality of life.
